San Antonio has a long and exciting history. Now, it is the second largest city in Texas, but San Antonio started as the Mission San Antonio de Valero in 1724. San Antonio, as a part of Texas, became part of the United Staes in 1845 and has continued its steady growth. Nowadays the Alamo is right in the heart of downtown SA. Due to good urban planning, today the city has a cosmopolitan downtown area with several museums, lots of galleries, extensive shopping and great dining. Expected to be finished by 2014, there’s a new project to extend the original two mile walk an additional eleven miles. The River Walk is now an incredible haven in the center of the bustling city. It’s just a story below street level which keeps down the noise from the street. The landscaping is lush and beautiful. Parts of the walk are lined with restaurants, galleries and shops, but there are also secluded stretches ideal for contemplation and relaxation. It’s serviced by tour boats, a shuttle boat and even diner cruises. The River Walk is easily accessed from all over downtown and within walking distance from many San Antonio condos.
San Antonio condominiums are near a large variety of recreation and entertainment. Built to host the 1968 World’s Fair, HemisFair park is downtown with the 750 foot tall tower of Americas. Also in the park, there are the Magik Theater, Mexican Cultural Institute, and UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures. San Antonio is also home to the nation’s oldest theme park, Kiddie Park. Sports enthusiasts will love San Antonio’s strong support of the 4-time NBA Champions the San Antonio Spurs. There’s also an incredible annual Valera Alamo Bowl. It is only a short drive into the Texas Hill Country, on the north side of San Antonio, to outdoor recreational areas. Government Canyon State Natural Area is one of the many parks around that provide plenty of hiking trails. When it warms up for summer, there are countless places to go tubing and river rafting.
