Bill offers break for properties in flood zone
Overseers of levees in southwestern Illinois welcomed Wednesday the advance of a federal measure that could give thousands of property owners up to a five-year reprieve in having to buy costly flood insurance in areas with questioned defenses against rivers.

“Thank You” Picnic for Flood Cleanup Volunteers
One of the victims of last weekend’s flash flooding in Plymouth is saying thanks. He threw a picnic on Saturday for volunteers who helped him clean his damaged property. He says if not for them, his situation would be a whole lot worse while he waits for government help.
